The Power of Reading: How Books can transform your life and mind

I still remember the day I attended Chris’s daughter Amanda’s kindergarten graduation. She was beaming with pride as she accepted the awards for excellence in literacy, phonetics, and numerals. It looked like kid show for Nobel prize.

I was blown away by her accomplishments and couldn’t help but feel a sense of admiration for Chris as a father.

As we chatted afterwards, I confided in Chris about my own struggles with parenting and asked for his secrets. He smiled and said, “it’s simple – just get them books!” (Ahhh! Just like that)

He shared how he made reading a priority for Amanda, and it showed in her remarkable abilities.

His words struck a chord with me. I realized that I had been neglecting my own personal growth and development. I made a commitment to start reading daily, and it transformed my life. I landed my first job as a copywriter, met my wonderful wife Sandra (with the best pickup lines that still makes her laugh!), and now have kids who inspire me every day, just like Amanda inspired me that graduation day.

The wisdom Chris shared that day stayed with me, and I’m grateful for the impact it’s had on my life.

As Charles Tremendous Jones said, “ You will be the same person in five years as you are today except for the people you meet and the books you read.” Chris and Amanda will always be special to me, reminding me of the power of reading and the Importance of investing in ourselves and in our children. ‍

Here’s what I’ve learned on how reading keeps you ahead.

Reading Increases Your Knowledge

In addition to expanding my perspective, reading has also increased my knowledge. Through books, I have gained a deeper understanding of history, science, philosophy, and literature. I have learned about the achievements of great minds, the struggles of marginalized communities, and the beauty of different art forms. This knowledge has helped me to become a more informed and engaged citizen of the world, and has enriched my conversations with others.

Reading Grants You Wisdom

While knowledge is important, wisdom is equally essential. Wisdom is the ability to apply knowledge in practical ways, to make sound decisions, and to navigate complex situations. Through reading, I have gained wisdom from the experiences of others, and have learned to apply it in my own life. I have learned to be more reflective, more intentional, and more purposeful, and have become a better person as a result.

Reading Inspires You

Finally, reading inspires me. Through books, I have discovered new passions, new interests, and new hobbies. I have been inspired by the stories of others, by their struggles and triumphs, and by their achievements. I have learned to see the world in a new light, to dream big, and to pursue my goals with purpose and passion.

Conclusion

Reading has had a profound impact on my life. It has expanded my perspective, increased my knowledge, granted me wisdom, and inspired me. I believe that reading can do the same for you, and I encourage you to make it a priority in your life. Whether you read for pleasure, for knowledge, or for insp‎iration, I promise that you will not be disappointed.
